Shopfront Façade Improvement and Access Fund

Liebig Street business owners and landlords are encouraged to explore options available through the Shopfront Façade Improvement and Access Fund.

The fund was established as part of Council’s City Centre Renewal business support package and aims to:

- Encourage and facilitate shop owners and operators to improve their buildings through façade upgrades, thereby improving their presentation to the street.
- Encourage and provide a mechanism for shop owners and operators to address all abilities access issues to the frontage of their premises that can’t be resolved through Council’s City Renewal construction works.

Warrnambool City Council will work in partnership with the city’s business community and property owners to upgrade the City Centre. 

The funding provides an opportunity for businesses to improve the presentation of properties and to provide all abilities access to private buildings in the City Centre to complement Council’s upgrade of the public streetscape infrastructure.

Through the fund property owners and business operators can apply for two types of grant:

1) $1:$1 matching grants up to $3,000 for shopfront improvements; and
2) $1:$1 matching grants up to $3,000 for internal all abilities access improvements within private buildings that cannot be corrected by Council’s City Renewal footpath works.

Examples of improvements which might be eligible for Council’s funding assistance include: 

- Painting
- Cleaning 
- Removal of redundant signage, air conditioning units and hoardings
- Minor repair, maintenance or reinstatement of missing elements
- Minor repairs to stone work
- Minor repairs to structural façade elements and awnings
- New, repairs and replacements of verandahs
- Correction, repair and/or establishment of level access within the private building line;
- Other external façade works that might be proposed by a landlord/business owner that reflects the intent and purpose of the fund.
