Communities are made stronger by volunteers.

May 17-23 is National Volunteer Week, a time to celebrate the significant contribution of Australia’s almost six million volunteers.

Each year these volunteers dedicate over 600 million hours to help others.

Warrnambool Mayor Cr Vicki Jellie said that our city and the Great South Coast region are enriched by the efforts of our volunteers.

“On behalf of Warrnambool City Council I would like to thank and acknowledge the incredible contribution of our volunteers to making our wonderful city a better place to live,” she said.

“The theme for this year's National Volunteer Week is Recognise, Reconnect, Reimagine.

“Warrnambool City Council is proud of the 14 volunteer programs that we support across our community, visitors and environment branches.

“We also acknowledge the significant contribution of volunteers in the wider community from sporting clubs, aged care, health services, youth, environment, and much more.

“We appreciate everything that you do.”

Interjit Kaur and her family give their time to clean up the city’s beach and parks, and activity they enjoy doing together.

“We feel mentally and physically good and we have fun,” she said.

“It’s a good idea to spend some time in nature.

“Our children learn many things… it’s part of their education as well.

“We feel proud and we feel good because we’ve spent time doing something special.”
