Hand of ceramicist Vipoo Srivilasa

New life for treasured ceramics

News Article Date:
Wednesday, 3 February 2021

In a WAG exclusive, internationally collected artist Vipoo Srivilasa wants to repair your damaged ceramic for inclusion in his exhibition Re/JOY in May 2021.
Re/JOY is a new collaborative exhibition from esteemed Thai born, Melbourne based artist, curator and activist Vipoo Srivilasa.

Srivilasa will intricately ‘repair’ damaged ceramics donated by members of the South West Victorian community.

Each damaged object, selected for its sentimental connection to the owner, enters into a process of ‘restorative happiness’. Through this process, Srivilasa interrogates our emotional connections to objects, while instilling a direct relationship of trust between the artist, curator and participant.

Seven select donors will be asked to permanently let go of the object and relinquish their association to its future. By allowing oneself to trust the curator and artist, Srivilasa will faithfully create a new artwork from the damaged object for exhibition; adorning it with his joyous artistic approach. In doing so, each donor is given the opportunity to reconcile any emotional bonds with the object as it transitions into a symbol of joy for greater audiences. Professionally photographed, each donor will receive a framed and signed limited edition A5 print as a memento.

WAG is currently accepting applications from potential donors. Entries close Sunday February 14, 2021.
