Live online auctions start at SWVLX

For the first time buyers at Friday’s store sale at the South West Victorian Livestock Exchange will be able to bid online for cattle.

The April 24 sale of 1500 head of livestock will be streamed through a service delivered by SWVLX and online auction platform StockLive.

SWVLX Service Manager Paul White said staff and operating agents were looking forward to the prospect of reaching a wider audience through the live online auction.

“With the challenges and restrictions on physical attendance presented by the current COVID-19 environment, the Warrnambool livestock agents sought to increase exposure of the region’s high quality livestock to the broadest array of buyers,” Mr White said.

“We’ll be able to reach buyers both locally and interstate by interfacing the live sales at SWVLX through the Stocklive platform.”

StockLive has operated successfully over the past two years.

“Implementing the StockLive platform increases the buyers’ ability to participate in our monthly store sales, whilst also allowing vendors to watch their livestock be sold in real time,” Brian O’Halloran and Co Agent Anthony Mahony said.

“With the current market prices being achieved at the SWVLX facility, we felt this was a constructive step forward that will safeguard the strong market competition in the current climate.”

StockLive Manager Libby Hufton said new users of the system would find it a straightforward process.

“New users should not be concerned. It is a simple process, jump online, register your details and you will get straight into the sale,” Ms Hufton said.

The sale begins 10am on Friday April 24 with lot information and descriptions uploaded on Thursday evening onto the StockLive website.

Images of the livestock will be uploaded on the morning of the sale allowing inspections before the sale commences.

Vendors and buyers will have the option to watch the sale online in real time and bid on lots during the sale.
