Warrnambool City Council (WCC) will host a public information session for residents considering standing for council in the upcoming election.
WCC Chief Executive Officer Bruce Anson said standing for council was a relatively simple process, but could be daunting if it potential candidates were not certain about how to nominate and campaign.
“The information session will outline the roles and responsibilities of a councillor and describe the election process,” Mr Anson said.
“I strongly encourage any residents contemplating standing for election to attend this information session.”
The information session for prospective candidates will be held on Thursday, July 7, from 7pm to 9pm at the Reception Room in the Civic Centre, 25 Liebig Street.
The Municipal Association of Victoria will provide information about the council area, and advice on who can nominate, how to nominate, and what is required of a councillor.
Guest speaker will be Corangamite Shire Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Mason.
A video presentation, Q&A with councillors from other municipalities will assist prospective candidates to gain an understanding of what the public will expect of you as a councillor including time commitments, challenges and rewards.
The free session will include an opportunity for open discussion and questions.
