Flagstaff Hill and the Visitor Information Centre

Flagstaff Hill, V.I.C. closed to the public

News Article Date:
Friday, 20 March 2020

Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village (FHMV) and the Warrnambool Visitor Information Centre (VIC) will be closed to the public from 5pm, March 20.

“This is a significant step to take in our efforts to help stop the spread of COVID-19,” Warrnambool City Council Chief Executive Officer Peter Schneider said.

“These are among the busiest Council sites in terms of people, many of whom are visitors to our city – both international and domestic.

“These are also the sites where we have large numbers of volunteers, many of them older members of our community and potentially more vulnerable to the impact of COVID-19.”

The period of the closure will be reviewed on April 3.

Flagstaff Hill's School Holiday Program has been cancelled.

All FHMV and VIC staff have been informed and arrangements around work duties are being worked through with each team member.

“This is not a decision that has been taken lightly because Flagstaff Hill and the VIC are an important part of Warrnambool’s visitor economy,” Mr Schneider said.

“However, based on advice from the Department of Health and Human Services around social distancing and international travellers, we believe it is an appropriate precaution.”

Visitor Information services are still available by calling 1800 637 725 or emailing vic [at] warrnambool [dot] vic [dot] gov [dot] au.
