The Allansford community is invited to an information session where future options for the Ziegler Parade Bridge will be discussed.

The bridge over the Hopkins River was closed in September as a precautionary measure after high water levels and flood debris placed the structure under considerable pressure.

“While a post-flood investigation revealed no new structural damage it did identify some deterioration of existing structural issues and new safety issues with the bridge railing,” Warrnambool City Council Director City Infrastructure Scott Cavanagh said.

“Before we can reopen the bridge we first need to address safety issues associated with the bridge railing.

“So we need to engage with the community about its function as a pedestrian and road link and we’re encouraging the Allansford community to attend the meeting on Thursday, December 15 at the Allansford Hall from 6pm to 7pm.

“We’re keen to hear the community’s views and the session will also provide Council with an opportunity to discuss related issues including other Princes Highway access points.”

A 14-tonne weight limit was applied to the Ziegler Parade Bridge in 2011.

An engineering assessment has indicated that it is unlikely the bridge would be able to operate without a load restriction.
