The full program of events for the 2018 Great South Coast Small Business Festival has been unveiled.

The festival will include 16 free or low-cost workshops and seminars aimed at helping local business operators and professionals stay on the cutting edge of a range of topics.

Warrnambool City Council Manager Economic Development Shaun Miller said that while the festival will still be full of practical advice, the 2018 event was focused on encouraging new ideas and big thinking.

“There’s a creative, entrepreneurial energy in Warrnambool that has been simmering beneath the surface for a while, and it’s only recently being seen more broadly,” he said.

“The festival is about taking globally relevant ideas and presenting them in a local context to hopefully foster more innovation and collaboration throughout the region.”

Mr Miller said that the festival would cater for established businesses looking to stay up-to-date on emerging trends as well as people looking to get their business idea off the ground.

“The way many successful businesses operate is changing rapidly, however access to world-class initiatives and case studies has never been better,” he said.

“Starting a business with a new idea can be daunting, but the Great South Coast Small Business Festival will be a wealth of information for people looking to make their good idea a reality.

“When you mention start-ups, the image most people get is of twenty-somethings in Silicon Valley working on the next great app. In truth, it’s just someone with an innovative idea who puts that idea into practice.”

Key events in 2018 include the Beers and Big Ideas Business Festival Launch with international placemaking expert Gilbert Rochecouste, a behind-the-scenes look at local businesses including the Fletcher Jones Motor Museum, the China Host Program facilitated by industry experts Asialink Business and the Unearthing Your Business Potential hosted by renowned Geelong business incubators Runway.

The Great South Coast Small Business Festival is part of the State Government’s Victorian Small Business Festival and is supported by the Warrnambool City and Moyne Shire Councils, The Standard and Coast FM/3YB.
