Sign warning of plovers in the area

Be careful of Hooded Plover chicks

News Article Date:
Thursday, 7 January 2021

Hooded Plover chicks have hatched on the beach between Grannys Grave and the Flume, so please take care if you are in the area.

To give the plovers the best chance of survival, please walk on the wet sand near the water's edge and make sure your dog is on a lead.

Hooded Plovers are a "Vulnerable" species under the Environment Protection Biodiversity and Conservation Act (1999).

The chicks are flightless for approximately 35 days after hatching.

They are also highly camouflaged on the sand.

Please follow the advice of any signage in the precinct and do not linger near any roped-off area.
