Swimming carnival at AquaZone

Back to school, hit the pool

Just like breaking in a new pair of school shoes or adding clear contact to textbooks, a school swimming carnival is a first term tradition for many Warrnambool students.

AquaZone is expecting more than 6000 swimming carnival-related visits during February and March, with eight different school events set to be staged in addition to the annual Warrnambool Swimming Club long course meet.

AquaZone Manager Ray Smith said that Warrnambool was intrinsically linked with the water.

“Warrnambool has a strong swimming community and each year the carnivals are well patronised by participants and supporters,” he said.

“These carnivals are always a lot of fun, but they also promote the importance of swimming both from a fitness and a water safety perspective.

“As well as events for the four local high schools plus the primary and secondary interschool events, we’re hosting the regional secondary schools carnival too.

“This is a great way to showcase our facilities to keen swimmers from all over western Victoria, and who knows, maybe we’ll have a future gold medallist grace our pool.”

The outdoor 50m pool will be closed to the public during carnival events. For more details, visit or call 5559 4500.
