ATO coming to Warrnambool to talk tax

News Article Date:

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is coming to Warrnambool this month to help local businesses stay on top of their tax.

The Australian government agency will run three free workshops covering a range of tax topics from record keeping to the newly introduced “single touch payroll” system.

Fran Kearney, from the ATO’s Small Business Education, Prevention and Support team, said that as the commercial centre of the region, Warrnambool was the ideal location to host the events.

“By providing these face-to-face workshops, the ATO is giving small businesses in Warrnambool the opportunity to learn and understand what they need to do, why and how, so they can confidently get off to the right start in running their business,” she said.

“Our workshops are designed to provide accurate and clear information to help small businesses understand their rights, entitlements and obligations.

“The information we provide is of a general nature so it better informs small business owners, without taking away the necessity of having meaningful discussions with their registered tax agent about their specific circumstances.

“We also provide information of the various online tools, services and other resources we have available to assist them.”

Warrnambool City Council CEO Peter Schneider encouraged all businesses, especially new businesses, to take the opportunity to hear from the ATO in person.

“There can be a lot to learn when it comes to setting up a business and making sure your tax and payroll processes are in order is crucial,” he said.

“This is an excellent chance to be brought up to speed by the experts themselves.

“Our region is home to some amazing, proactive businesses, and I’m sure that these workshops will be well received.”

All workshops will be held at South West TAFE and are free to attend. Register by clicking on the links below.
