2015 kinder open day

News Article Date:
Monday, 11 May 2015

Some of Warrnambool’s youngest citizens will have the chance to experience kindergarten for the first time at the Warrnambool City Council (WCC) Kindergarten Open Day on Monday May 25.

While the children can get a taste of the fun 2016 will have in store, parents and carers will have the opportunity to tour facilities, meet the staff and get all the information they need to make an informed decision on their child’s kindergarten enrolment for next year.

Allansford, Beamish Street, Central, City, Dennington, East Warrnambool and South Warrnambool kindergartens will be open from 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm.

Florence Collins, Lions Hopkins and Mahogany kindergartens will be open from 9am – 12pm.

Council will also be running kindergarten programs at Matron Swinton and Sherwood Park in 2016, though these centres will not be part of the open day.

Children who will be four years of age by April 30 2016 are eligible to attend four year old kindergarten.

WCC Preschool Coordinator Ebony Grieve said that kindergarten allows children to learn through play and develop their skills confidently.

“Kindergarten is one of the first steps on a pathway of lifelong learning,” she said.

“It provides an engaging and comfortable environment for children to explore, learn and develop.

“This allows for an easier transition to school the following year.

“Open day is a great chance to familiarise yourself and your child with the WCC kindergartens and make that first day of kinder in 2016 a positive experience.

“Children currently enrolled will not be in attendance to enable staff to be available to parents and children during their visit.”

Open day coincides with the first day of kinder enrolments, with WCC kindergarten enrolment kits available on the day.

Kits will also be made available at the Warrnambool Civic Centre at 25 Liebig St, the Children’s Service Centre at 600 Raglan Pde and on the WCC website from May 25 should parents be unable to attend the open day.

Council will also be holding a kinder and school readiness session on June 1 for parents unsure if their child is ready for either kinder or school.

More information on this session will be included in the Kindergarten Open Day kits as well as the WCC website closer to the date.
