Home Care (Domestic Assistance)

Home Care helps older people with their capacity to manage everyday tasks in a safe, secure and healthy home environment. Services are designed to promote wellbeing and the capacity to live independently in your own home.

Personal Care

Personal Care provides support to older people who are unable to carry out personal care tasks due to frailty, disability or ill health. This service may include any personal hygiene, grooming or even shopping assistance.

These services recognise that you have changing needs as you get older, while being aware of your need to remain as active as possible while living independently in your home.

Home Maintenance

Home Maintenance involves services like lawn mowing and home modifications (such as rails).  This service assists older people in maintaining a safe and secure home environment while providing improved wellbeing and independence.

Meals on Wheels

Cooked Meals
A variety of nutritious cooked meals are delivered, Monday to Friday every day of the year (including all public holidays). Weekend meals are also delivered on Fridays.

A dedicated team of volunteers are registered with the Warrnambool City Council to deliver meals. Importantly, this service is not just about the meal. Our wonderful volunteers also check on the wellbeing of every customer who receives a meal.

Are you available to volunteer one day a week?

Council is currently seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels within the Warrnambool community. Meals are delivered Monday to Friday between 11am and 12.30pm.

Respite Care

Respite Care helps to maintain care relationships between carers and clients through great quality respite care. It allows carers to get an important break from their caring role.

Respite Care may be for a few hours or days or longer periods, depending on your needs and the needs of the person who cares for you.

Services can be in your home or at Council’s own day centre facilities that have great indoor and outdoor activities and also include residential cottage respite.

Who is eligible and how do I access these services?

Inquiries and referrals can be received from:

  • Family members or friends.
  • General practitioners.
  • Hospitals or other health services.
  • Community agencies.
  • You – anyone requiring assistance can phone on their own behalf.

What happens next?

Before services can commence, some customers aged 65+ may need to register through My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. Once done the Regional Assessment Staff will arrange a home visit to determine the level and nature of your needs. They will identify strengths and work with you to assist with achieving health and wellbeing outcomes.

What is the cost?

Nominal fees are charged for some services, while others are free. We can discuss fees at any stage in your enquiry.
